Year In Review
2014 was a difficult year for us. It began with the passing of our Grandpa, Alfred Englund on January 21st. He was very loved by us all. In his honor, we decided very early to make the show in 2014 a tribute to Grandpa. So just as he did with his hobbies in life, we committed to going all out. We added 7 more LOR controllers to bring our channel count from 64 to 176. These new LOR channels controlled our new; river, candy cane wheel, Santa, animated mega tree, multi-colored lights on the siding, and lights up the lamp post and mega tree post. 2014 was also the 1st year we added RGB channels to our display, we added 2 SanDevices E682 controllers which controlled 4,596 RGB channels, these new RGB channels controlled our new; mini trees, LED pixel matrix, and color-changing presents. We also added video to our display in 2014 via a flat-screen TV. We had our opening night on November 26th and even though everything was not yet quite finished, it still turned out great. Thank you to all who attended to help make that a very special evening for us. Then we finally finished everything on the front of the house on December 11th and had been contacted by ABC's The Great Christmas Light Fight about possibly being on the show. Which of course had us very excited, so we started filming videos right away to send into them by their deadline of December 19th. On December 13th we went out to take our family Christmas photos and when we returned our home had been broken into and among the items stolen were the laptop which controlled our show along with all the video files we had taken. So we missed the deadline to apply for the Great Christmas Light Fight and had to cancel our show for the rest of the season. It takes countless hours/weeks/months to sequence the songs for the show, so there was no way possible to get anything done in time after December 13th. Thankfully a great/wise friend of ours was later able to recover some of our video files from the camera's SD card even though they had already been deleted. Which is how we were able to post videos from 2014 on this site.
